Stay within or beside the old town so you can explore early morning before crowds and return to the riverfront after dark. The historic core is best discovered on foot.

Best time to visit
March–May and September–November bring milder temperatures and comfortable walking weather. Summer is greener but can be hot and busy.
How many days do I need?
One full day covers the historic core, while two days gives you time for early-morning and evening riverfront walks plus nearby heritage sites.
How to get there
The easiest route is high-speed rail to Fenghuang Gucheng Station, followed by a short local transfer to the ancient town.
Getting around
The old town is compact and best explored on foot. Luggage transfers or short vehicle rides are useful between the rail station, hotel and pedestrian-only lanes.
What to combine it with
Fenghuang pairs naturally with Zhangjiajie and Changsha, and can also fit into a longer south-China route toward Guilin.
