Practical Travel Info for Chongqing

Expect steep streets, stairs and multi-level transport. Group nearby neighborhoods together and allow extra transfer time even when map distances look short.

Best time to visit
March to May and September to November are generally the most comfortable periods for exploring the city. Chongqing can be visited year-round, but summer is typically hotter and more humid.
How many days do I need?
Two days is enough for the main urban highlights and night views. Three to four days works better if you want a slower city experience or a day trip to Wulong, Dazu or another nearby attraction.
How to get there
Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport serves the city, and major railway stations connect Chongqing with Chengdu and many other Chinese destinations by high-speed rail.
Getting around
Chongqing is built across steep hills and multiple levels, so short map distances can still involve stairs, slopes or indirect routes. Rail transit, taxis and well-planned transfers make it easier to group nearby sights together.
What to combine it with
Chengdu is the easiest major-city combination, while Jiuzhaigou can extend the route into Sichuan’s mountain landscapes. Wulong also works well as a nature-focused side trip from Chongqing.
