Practical Travel Info for Chengdu
Reserve enough time for the Panda Base early in the day, and keep transfers flexible if combining Chengdu with Dujiangyan, Mount Qingcheng or onward high-speed rail.
Best time to visit
March to June and September to November are usually the most comfortable periods for city sightseeing. Chengdu works year-round, but spring and autumn are especially pleasant for combining the city with nearby outdoor destinations.
How many days do I need?
Two to three days covers the main city highlights, panda experiences and local neighborhoods. Four days gives you more room for Dujiangyan, Mount Qingcheng or a slower food-focused itinerary.
How to get there
Chengdu is served by Tianfu International Airport and Shuangliu International Airport, with high-speed rail connections to many major Chinese cities. It is also the main transport hub for onward trips through Sichuan.
Getting around
The metro is convenient for many central areas, while taxis and private transfers are useful for attractions outside the core. Plan transfers carefully when combining the Panda Base, Dujiangyan or Mount Qingcheng in one itinerary.
What to combine it with
Jiuzhaigou and Chongqing are the strongest onward combinations from Chengdu. Both fit naturally into a longer western China journey using rail, road and regional flight connections.
