Practical Travel Info for Xi'an
Reserve the Terracotta Warriors for a half or full day outside the city center, and group the City Wall, Bell Tower, Muslim Quarter and nearby old-city sights together.
Best time to visit
March to May and September to November are usually the most comfortable seasons. Spring and autumn work especially well for outdoor walking on the City Wall and full-day excursions to the Terracotta Warriors.
How many days
Allow 2–3 days for the main sights. One day can focus on the Terracotta Warriors and Huaqing Palace, with another day for the City Wall, pagodas, museums and old-city neighborhoods.
How to get there
Xi’an is a major air and high-speed rail hub. Direct trains connect with Beijing, Chengdu, Zhengzhou and many other cities, while Xi’an Xianyang International Airport serves domestic and international routes.
Getting around
Metro and taxis cover most central sights efficiently. The Terracotta Warriors and Huaqing Palace are outside central Xi’an, so a private vehicle or organized day tour is the simplest option.
What to combine it with
Xi’an combines naturally with Beijing for imperial history, Chengdu for food and pandas, or Datong for another strong heritage-focused extension.
