Practical Travel Info for Zhangjiajie
Allow at least two full sightseeing days and keep some flexibility for weather, queues and mountain transport inside the national park.
Best time to visit
April to November is the main travel season. Spring brings fresh greenery, summer is lush and warm, and autumn often offers comfortable temperatures and clear mountain views.
How many days do I need?
Three to four days works well for most first visits. Allow about two days for Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, one day for Tianmen Mountain, and extra time if you want the Grand Canyon or a slower pace.
How to get there
Arrive through Zhangjiajie Hehua International Airport or Zhangjiajie West Station. Rail connections make it increasingly practical to combine Zhangjiajie with other destinations in central and western China.
Getting around
The major scenic areas are spread out. Inside the national park, sightseeing buses, cableways and elevators connect key zones, while private or arranged transfers make travel between the park, Tianmen Mountain and the city more efficient.
What to combine it with
Changsha and Fenghuang are common regional combinations. For a longer nature-focused China trip, Zhangjiajie can also connect well with Chongqing or Guilin.
